Mauritius is a paradise for photographers, offering a mix of pristine beaches, dramatic mountains, lush forests, and crystal-clear lagoons. Over the course of a week, I explored some of the island’s most photogenic locations, capturing its vibrant colors and breathtaking scenery.
In this guide, I’m sharing 7 of the best photo locations in Mauritius that stood out to me. Whether you’re a landscape photographer, drone enthusiast, or simply love capturing beautiful destinations, these spots will provide incredible opportunities for stunning shots.
As a disclaimer, this is not a complete list of all the photo locations in Mauritius. This is just my experience of one week exploring this island.

I’ve also listed the videos I created during my trip so you can see some behind-the-scenes of how I captured these images.
1) Le Morne Beach
Le Morne Beach is set against the towering Le Morne Brabant mountain and is a great location to photograph.
This is arguably the most iconic and most popular location in Mauritius and for good reason.
You’ll find a beautiful mix of white sand, turquoise water and a dramatic backdrop which is the perfect depiction of a tropical island.
During my trip, I visited this beach many times at different times in the day and at various spots.
I think a drone is very useful here as it shows the mountain in all its glory. With much of the beach being private property, there are some things to keep in mind when photographing from the shore.
From my understanding, the area between the sea and the high tide mark is public land and you can walk on. Anything further inland, beyond the high tide mark, is private property – so just be mindful of this.
2) Le Morne Brabant
Located to the east of Le Morne Beach and close to the B9 road, this beach is another good photo location.
Not only is there a nice mountainous backdrop but there are some photogenic boats here as well.
The tide recedes very far here which provided a good opportunity to get closer to the boats in the bay.
3) Baie du Cap
Another good location along the south coast of the island is the beach at Baie du Cap.
Unlike the more touristy beaches, it offers a peaceful setting which is perfect for capturing a more authentic beach scene.
I spotted this beach as we were driving by one day and thought the picturesque boats and palm trees might work nicely.
4) Flic en Flac
Flic en Flac Beach is a good location for photography, with its soft white sand, clear lagoon, and palm-lined shore.
I only visited for sunset but managed to get a nice shot by using the drone. At low tide, you can see some interesting patterns which only adds to the scene.
5) Tamarin Bay
This is a really good location as it provides a well-balanced composition.
The bay here provides a nice foreground while the view of La Tourelle Mountain is quite striking.
The soft light at sunrise or sunset works perfectly. I chose to visit at sunrise as the beach will be quieter at this time.
6) Rempart Mountain
Rempart Mountain, with its rugged cliffs and sharp peak, stands out as one of Mauritius’ most dramatic peaks.
There are plenty of viewpoints of the peaks. I parked up not too far from the main road and flew the drone during sunrise to capture the first light on the mountainside.
7) Lagoons & Reefs
Not a specific location but rather a good tip for any coastal location. Using the drone, I was able to capture some interesting abstract images of the shallow lagoons and reef systems.
