Equipment List

Here’s a little breakdown of the gear I currently use for landscape and travel photography as well as a brief explanation on why.

I’ve included hyperlinks for each product which are affiliate links. This means I’ll get a very small commission if you buy the product using that exact link. Don’t worry, you won’t pay extra to do this and it’s a good way to support me and my photography.

Cameras & Lenses

Sony A7RV
I’ve used a Sony setup for many years and I’ve been particularly impressed with the latest in the R series. I love being able to capture scenes with a  high resolution, the dynamic range is incredible, the usability is very good and I find the RAW files produced are very easy to work with.

Sony FE 16-35mm f/2.8 GM
This lens has greatly improved my ability to frame compositions. The 16-35mm range on a full-frame camera is pretty close to ‘what your eye sees’ so makes composing a shot slightly easier. Although expensive I feel it was a good long-term investment as I often found myself in situations where the 24-105mm focal length wasn’t quite wide enough. It’s really good in low light when I’m in those situations and the sun stars you get look nice.

Sony FE 24-105mm F4 G
This is a good ‘walk around lens’ and gives you a good level of versatility. This is a really good value lens and level of quality is much the same as the more expensive 24-70mm GM lens.

Sony FE 100-400mm f/4.5-5.6 GM
This has been a brilliant lens for me and I’ve been in many situations where I’ve been able to get some unique perspectives. I find that I use it a lot when I’m in mountainouse or desert landscapes and allows me to ‘compress’ and simply scenes.

DJI Air 2S Drone
This is the first drone I’ve owned and has since become a key ‘tool in my armoury’. I was hesitent of buying and using a drone but I’m glad that I followed though as many of my favourite images have been captured in this way.

Tripod & Accessories

FLM CP-30 L4 II Carbon Tripod
This is an excellent tripod and a worthy investment. I’ve taken it all over the world and meets all of the requirements I have. I’ve written a review of this tripod if you’re interested in learning more.

Acratech GXP Ballhead – Locking Lever Clamp
This works perfectly with my tripod and I really like how durable and rugged it is. Although expensive it’s definitely worth it, especially considering how often I use a tripod.

Shimoda X50 Backpack
This is a brilliant backpack that’s so versatile. When I’m traveling, I can fit all of my camera gear, clothes, chargers, toiletries etc.

Kase Wolverine Magnetic Circular Filters – 82mm
A great filter system I can use on all of my lenses. It’s worth mentioning, I don’t use graduated filters as it’s a destructive workflow.

SmallRig L-Bracket for Sony A7RV
An l-bracket is a must and makes vertical compositions much easier. I’ve had a few over the years and as long as it’s strong, you can’t go wrong.

Miscellaneous

K&F Concept Air Blower
A useful bit of gear to keep your lenses clean, especially in the rain and desert.

Peak Design Cuff Strap
I don’t like camera straps permanently affixed to the camera so the Peak Design quick links is a good option.

Memory Card Case Holder
Quite useful if you have a lot of memory cards.

Apple AirTag
Not foolproof but it gives me some added piece of mind when I’m traveling. If I’m checking in my luggage at the airport, I’ll put the AirTag in there.

Vlogging Gear

GoPro HERO10

I use the GoPro a lot and I love how easy it is to use. It’s nice that I don’t have to worry about the settings that much and I can quickly get it out and press record.

DJI Mic
This makes recording good quality audio on the go really easy. I used to have a recorder and lavalier mic but I found the wires a bit annoying the recorder wasn’t the easiest to use.

Iphone 15 Pro
Great for photography, videography and even has satellite communication which gives an added level of security when I’m in the middle of nowhere.

Computing

Macbook Pro 14 inch M1
A brilliant computer that handles my photo editing workflow and my 4k video editing workflow.

Dell U2720Q Monitor
I really like this monitor. I edit most of my photos using a monitor so it’s really important to have something that is colour accurate. I also like the 4k resolution.

QNAP TR004 & Seagate Ironwolf Drives
A direct attached storage device that gives me a solid data backup strategy when used with cloud backup software.

Datacolor SpyderX Pro Monitor Calibrator
A useful device to ensure your display is colour accurate.
